Secondary at Dallington School

After successfully completing the Early Years and Primary stages, Dallington pupils move on to Secondary School. During this stage, our students broaden and deepen their knowledge while acquiring more advanced skills for the future. They learn from specialist teachers in a variety of learning environments.

At Dallington Secondary, every pupil gains in-depth understanding of each subject and takes on greater personal responsibility. From Year 7 we help them develop effective study techniques and establish good learning habits. We have high expectations: effort and perseverance are values we always seek to foster. Our aim is for each student to reach their full potential as both a person and a learner, supported by an environment designed to make that possible.

Secondary Curriculum

Dallington’s Secondary School is divided into two Key Stages: Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
Academic progress is measured by teachers at the end of each stage. From Secondary onwards, teaching is delivered by specialist subject teachers. Each year group has a form tutor who oversees pupils’ academic progress and personal development.

High academic standards and expectations are always accompanied by Dallington values –
responsibility, kindness, effort, respect, good manners and honesty. Secondary students are role models for the younger pupils and are therefore given responsibilities in whole-school co-curricular projects through our Communication and Thinking Skills (CTS) subject.

KEY STAGE 3: Years 7–9
(Year 7 = Spanish 6º de primaria, Year 8 = 1º ESO, Year 9 = 2º ESO)

In the final stage of Secondary, pupils follow the IGCSE programme (International General Certificate of Secondary Education). They prepare for examinations in May of Year 11, which are set and marked by external bodies such as the University of Cambridge. Key Stage 4 is an intense and decisive period, during which students gain independence in their study habits. Dallington pupils typically sit seven to nine IGCSE exams, including compulsory subjects (English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Combined Science, Spanish and French) and a choice of optional subjects such as Art, Computer Science, History and Business. Teachers help pupils build confidence for these examinations by gradually introducing the specific vocabulary and question formats they will encounter, without changing our active, creative and enquiry-based teaching approach. Research, creativity and practical learning continue to be a daily focus.

Subjects taught in Key Stage 3 include:

· English, including Communication and Thinking Skills

· Mathematics

· Lengua Española

· Ciencias Sociales (Historia y Geografía)

· Humanities – World Studies (History, Geography, including the GlobalAwareness Project)

· Physical Education – PE

Head of Secondary & Assessment Coordinator

Mr. Hiley

In my 15 years of teaching and educational leadership experience in the international sector, I have always had a strong focus on combining academic rigour and high standards with whole-child development. I teach across the secondary and college age range and also love to contribute to schools in other aspects - be it supporting musical development, running extra-curricular trips, or coaching sports teams. Fundamentally, I want our students to learn a lot, and enjoy themselves whilst they do it.

OUR SPORTS PROGRAMME

At Dallington we believe firmly in the power of sport for the all-round development of our students.
We therefore offer a broad and varied sports programme covering both individual disciplines and team games, encouraging personal effort, teamwork and a spirit of self-improvement.
Pupils enjoy weekly sports sessions within school hours, making use of excellent local facilities such as Campo de Rugby Hortaleza and Club Los Brezos, which they travel to as part of our educational proposal.
This approach enables them to explore a wide range of physical activities in a professional and stimulating setting, helping each student to find their passion and establish healthy lifestyle habits from an early age.

TEEN CAREER PROGRAMME – FROM KEY STAGE 4

Our unique Teen Career Programme begins in Year 10 (age 14) and continues through Sixth Form.
Through this initiative, students meet professionals from different sectors who share first-hand insights into their careers, education and professional journeys.
Students may also shadow these professionals in their workplaces for a morning, gaining real experience and a clearer understanding of different professional environments.
