PRIMARY

In Primary there are different stages:
In our Primary School, pupils begin to move beyond the Early Years curriculum and transition into the National Curriculum. This stage marks an exciting time in their educational journey, where they begin to explore distinct subjects such as English, mathematics, and science, while continuing to learn through rich, interconnected topics covering the humanities, art, and computing.
At Dallington, we are passionate about providing a broad and balanced education that not only supports academic excellence, but also nurtures the whole child. In addition to covering the curriculum thoroughly and with rigour, we place great importance on developing key life skills such as public speaking, debating, negotiation, teamwork, and both social and global awareness. These are explored through our unique CTS (Communication and Thinking Skills) and GAP (Global Awareness Project) lessons - a much-loved part of our timetable.

Our pupils thoroughly enjoy creative, cross-curricular projects which spark curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and bring learning to life.

We value variety in our approaches to teaching and learning, with a strong emphasis on oracy woven into daily classroom life. From class discussions to our much-anticipated Choral Speaking Festival, spoken language is celebrated and embedded across the curriculum.

Outdoor learning, hands-on experiences, and collaborative work are all essential elements of life at Dallington. Whether it is a science experiment in our garden, a history walk around Madrid, or trips further afield, we believe learning is most powerful when it is active, real, and meaningful.

Assesment

In the first stages of Primary Education, we use continuous assessment to understand what our pupils know, can do, and how they are progressing. This includes teacher observations, review of their workbooks, individual conversations, and presentations of their learning. As they progress into Upper Primary, pupils begin to sit internal and external assessments, preparing them for a confident transition to secondary school.
