Healthy Me\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here at Dallington School we offer a comprehensive British Curriculum.\u00a0 Along with educating the brain we also aim to create compassionate and healthy, both physically and mentally global citizens.\u00a0 Values are interwoven throughout the daily lessons and are the foundation of our house system.\u00a0 Another important experience to develop 21st century globally aware students is through the weekly GAP, Global Awareness Project\/CTS, Critical Thinking Skills programmed lessons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">These topics are decided as a whole school and taught in all Primary groups.\u00a0 This term the children focused on \u201cMaking a Happier Healthier Me\u201d.\u00a0 The activities promoted critically thinking about both physical and mental health.\u00a0 The topics were further broken down into: \u00a0<em>We are what we EAT<\/em>; <em>Putting it in to PRACTICE<\/em>; <em>What does our FOOD do for us<\/em>; <em>The NOT so friendly world of sugar and fats;<\/em> The WONDERFUL world of water; <em>Building a STRONGER body, one move at a time<\/em>, and <em>The importance of a happy healthier MIND.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8407 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dallingtonschool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Foto2hh-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Before the children can comprehend the larger world around them, it is important that they understand themselves and the importance of being in good health both physically and mentally.\u00a0 Lessons were built around inquiry-based learning techniques.\u00a0 The teacher\u00b4s primary purpose is to act as a facilitator to develop questions that would facilitate a deeper understanding of living a healthy lifestyle.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The children gained a clearer understanding of vitamins and minerals that contributed to the nutritional values of the foods and where they are located in the food pyramid.\u00a0 One of the most important parts of the lessons was self-reflection.\u00a0 All the children completed a food journal and then had to critically assess their food intake as well as ensure they ate a balanced diet.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8399\" src=\"https:\/\/dallingtonschool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Foto-4hh-1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" Calibri;\">As part of the global awareness aspect of the children were introduced to \u201cexotic fruits\u201d.\u00a0 The purpose was for the children to understand that different parts of the world produce and consume a variety of fruits.\u00a0 It was an opportunity for children to taste fruits that were filled with \u00a8good sugars\u00a8 and could be a healthy alternative to candy and font-family: Calibri;\">Key Stage 2 had the privilege of watching an informative power point about the importance of food excess.\u00a0 The year five teacher, Mr. Dixon had the unique opportunity of volunteering in an orphanage in Thailand.\u00a0 He was able to deliver the important concept of reducing food waste through vivid pictures that sent a clear message.\u00a0 The students were able to see how other children live and hopefully develop empathy for less fortunate while being able to appreciate what they have. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This year we invited \u201cexperts\u201d from our outside community to coming in and share their knowledge about healthy living.\u00a0 An amazing group of parents came in and facilitated a series of workshops throughout key stage 1 and 2.\u00a0 They varied in topic from creating a balanced plate, categorising food into the appropriate food groups, volleyball, yoga, cross fit, emotional regulation and cooking healthy pancakes The children were able to develop a deeper understanding of the importance of keeping themselves healthy and in-turn happier.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8401\" style=\"background-color: transparent; Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The CTS\/GAP programme was adopted at Dallington School to promote global awareness and 21st-century thinkers.\u00a0 The teachers are facilitating learning that encourages students to \u201cthink outside the books\u201d and appreciate the world around them.\u00a0 The unique opportunity opens a different door for the students and deepens the quality of
